Understanding Group Readings: Why Spirit Chooses, Not the Medium

Why Some People Get a Reading, and Others Don’t
How Are People Chosen for a Reading?
A Clear & Honest Answer from a Medium

One of the most common questions I receive before and after events is this:
“How do you choose who gets a reading?”
Here is the truth, spoken with complete honesty and integrity:
I don’t choose. Spirit does.
This work has never been about me selecting someone from a crowd, responding to who looks the most emotional, or deciding who “deserves” a message. Mediumship does not work that way, and it never has.
When I begin an online or in-person group reading, I consciously step aside and open myself as a channel, allowing Spirit to lead every connection. If you have ever attended one of my events, you’ve heard me say things like, “My body is being pulled in this direction,” or “I just found myself looking at you, so I’m supposed to connect here.” Sometimes Spirit has me notice something you’re wearing, a specific object near you, or brings forward a name, phrase, or shared memory or something so personal that only one person in the room could possibly understand. These are not choices I make with my mind; they are gentle but unmistakable cues from Spirit guiding the connection in real time.
Think of it like this:
I am the phone .Your loved ones are the ones dialing in.

What Actually Determines Who Comes Through?
People often assume that wanting a message badly, sitting in a certain place, or showing visible emotion somehow increases their chances. I want to gently and clearly say:
None of those things influence Spirit.
Here are the real reasons Spirit steps forward during a group reading:
✨ An Energetic Pull
Spirit is drawn to energy, not effort. Sometimes that energy is deep grief. Sometimes it’s quiet hope. Sometimes it’s someone whose message will help many people heal, not just one.
Sometimes, the person receiving the message never expected to be chosen at all.
✨ Urgency
Some messages cannot wait.
Guidance related to emotional healing, health awareness, life decisions, or reassurance often comes through when timing truly matters even if the person hasn’t consciously asked for help.
✨ Divine Timing
You may not be asking the loudest, but Spirit knows when your heart is ready.
I have witnessed life-changing messages come through at moments when someone least expected it, but needed it more than they realized.
Does Mediumship Work the Same Online?
Yes. Exactly the same.
Distance does not block Spirit. Love does not recognize physical limitations.
If You Didn’t Receive a Direct Reading, This Is Important
This is the part I want everyone to TRULY hear and understand:
If you do not receive a direct reading it does NOT mean Spirit ignored you, is mad at you or that you are not important to them.
Many people receive healing in other powerful ways during group readings, including:
Hearing something for another person that directly relates to their own loved one
Receiving internal validation or emotional release
Experiencing signs shortly before or after the event
Feeling comfort, and healing simply by being present in the energy of Spirit.
Witnessing Spirit work can be healing on its own.
A Loving but Honest Boundary
I understand disappointment. Grief is tender and emotional, and wanting a message from someone you love is deeply human, but I want to be very clear, so expectations are aligned:
Attending a group reading does not guarantee a personal reading, and it never will.
Mediumship is not a service where names are pulled from a list or turns are taken. It is a sacred, Spirit-led experience guided entirely by divine intelligence.
This is not my work.
It is Spirit’s work.
If You Feel Called to Attend, Trust That Feeling
Spirit does not bring you somewhere by accident or coincidence.
If you feel drawn to an event, an online reading, or even to read these words right now there is a reason, whether you understand it in the moment or not.
Trust the process. Trust the timing. Trust your loved ones in Spirit.
They are always closer than you think. ALWAYS.
With love, support, caring thoughts, and deep respect for your grief and healing,
Debbie XO
